LA Hacks is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization based at UCLA. Our flagship program is a free, student-focused technology hackathon.
For 36 hours every spring, UCLA transforms into a vibrant hub for 1,000+ developers and designers in Southern California’s largest collegiate hackathon.
Hands-on technology education for students
Our mission is to make hands-on technology education accessible by giving students opportunities to learn, build, collaborate, and connect with industry professionals— regardless of prior experience. The annual hackathon is where most of that programming happens; we also occasionally host workshops and industry events outside the weekend.
15 years of Southern California's premier collegiate hackathon
Selected university attendees create apps, software, hardware, or other products using various technologies and compete for over $60,000 in prizes.
Now in its 15th year, LA Hacks has become a premier tech event recognized by students worldwide. Building on the success of our recent in-person hackathon, we continue to create a space for hackers to set the course for the next generation of innovation.

Hackers have complete creative freedom with microcontrollers, VR gear, modern frameworks, and cloud APIs provided by our industry partners.
24/7 Technical Guidance
Over 50 industry mentors, startup founders, and engineering leaders debug and mentor alongside students day and night.
First-Time Hackers
We host dedicated beginner tracks, zero-to-one workshops, and team-formation mixers so every student can build their first real project.
